U Win Pe

U Win Pe was born in 1936. He studied art under U Ba Thant. He was a graduate of the prestigious state School of Fine Arts(Mandalay). And hs was the headmaster of the state school of Find Arts ( Mandalay). U Win Pe and Paw Oo Thet were to play Leading roles in the movement of modern art. The first modern art show opened to the public was held in December of 1967 at the YMCA hall. Group shows of the young modern artists had been held from the mid sixties, led as usal by POT, Win Pe and Khin Maung Yin. The modern exhibitions took Place annually under the names Monsoon, Winter, Summer and with its fourth event changed to the 4th Movement until the 11th, the final one in the late 19705.

Peacok Gallery opened in the late seventies founded by paw Thame and Sonny Nyein. The rought out the existence of this gallery, up to 1986, it held a great number o annual shows as batik, papier-decoupe, collago, glass, bronze etc, which had very seldom, if at all, been used in art as even modern artist tend to stick to the traditional, mediums of oil, aquarelle and later acrylics. The member of that galllery were eight man Baji Aung Soe,Khin Maung Yin, Paw Thame, Sonny Nyein, Win Pe, Gyee Saw, Nyi Nyi, Sein Myint and one woman Ma Thanegi.

Peacock Gallery was at that time the only gallery of modernart. It folded in 1986, after Paw Thame immigrated to the states.
