Sayar Saung (1998-1952)

Sayar Saung was born in Mandalay in 1898. His parents were Saya Sint and Daw Thi. He attended a teacher's training at the Normal School. After working at serveral jobs as teacher, bank clerk and forestry clerk he started to learn and practice drawing and pictures of Australion artist J.J> Hilder which he had found in abook. Later he studied under U Maung Maung Gyi and U Ba Zaw.

He was particulary noted for his water colors and widely know as "water Colour Saya Saung" or "Yay -say Mintha Saya Saung". He preferred to use the clear water colour method. The Myanmar Government honoured him by appointing him Principal of the State school of Paingting , but unfortunately he died tws days later.
